Perfect for sports-loving couch potatoes
We've written before about how people are using their mobiles to chat on a 'backchannel' while watching big TV shows like The X Factor.
Now an iPhone app called FanPulse is looking to tap into the idea for big sports events.
It lets people sign up friends, and then register for their favourite teams, and sports events that they'll be watching in the near future - either in person or on TV.
When the event starts, they get a push notification to open the app, and access a live chat-room with their friends - perfect for the sort of merciless abuse friendly banter that characterises social sports viewing.
The app also lets users post their comments to Twitter and Facebook, adding a viral spin. And it cops some lingo from the new breed of social location apps by getting users to 'check in' to matches.
Sadly for us Brits, ME has been testing FanPulse this morning, and can confirm that while it's available in the UK App Store, all the teams and events covered are US.
Ah well. We'll stick to chatting on our Twitter apps about sport for now...
Interesting concept, however i think there is a brit startup that does the same thing check it out here although it does cover a lot more types of sport;

Thanks James - it doesn't appear to be mobile though, unless I'm missing something?
Hi all,
This is Vish from FanPulse. First off, thanks for the great review Stuart.
Second, I'd like to jump in on the thought that we don't have anything for our friends around the world. Today, we're already covering the English Premier League - its just possible there were no EPL games going on when you checked out the 'Games' tab in FanPulse.
We're also actively planning on expanding our non-U.S. sports offering, covering more football (soccer) leagues and cricket in the coming months, not to mention the World Cup!
Check out the EPL coverage by adding favorites and checking-in to games. As always, we'd love your feedback at http://fanpul.se/support
