MIDEM 2010: Shazam users now buying 300,000 songs a day

CEO Andrew Fisher reveals high conversion rates for music recognition app

Shazam CEO Andrew Fisher says that users of the company's mobile apps are buying more than 300,000 tracks every day.

He revealed the news at music industry conference MidemNet, during a panel session on mobile apps and music.

Previously, Shazam has tended to only reveal its overall user downloads - a figure that currently stands somewhere north of 50 million.

However, the 300,000 song purchases shows that the company's music recognition apps are starting to generate real revenues for the music industry.

As the middleman, Shazam's share of these revenues is small, but if they continue to scale up at this rate, it's good news for the company's bottom line - and ability to invest in new features and platforms.
