Recommending in a freebie wonderland
Want to know the best iPhone apps leading up to Christmas? envIO Networks has published a chart of the top 10 recommended apps on its Chorus service for November.
Chorus is an iPhone app (App Store link) that lets people sign up their friends and then get recommendations of apps and games they might like.
Seven of the top ten are free apps, while there's a good spread of categories. The full list is:
1. Eliminate Pro (free)
2. Shazam (free)
3. Gowalla (free)
4. Loopt (free)
5. WhatsApp Messenger ($0.99)
6. Google Earth (free)
7. PocketMoney ($4.99)
8. iFitness ($1.99)
9. WebMD Mobile (free)
10. Photoshop.com Mobile (free)
However, when it came to actual buy attempts - users following through on the recommendations provided by Chorus - it was a completely different set of apps, interestingly.
Touch DJ, Ravensword: The Fallen King and AppButler topped the paid apps chart based on buy attempts, while FunMail, AccuWeather and Redbox headed the free list.
envIO says that since it launched, Chorus users have on average invited 54 friends to sign up for the service.
"Chorus demonstrates that social discovery of applications is a game-changing way of driving downloads of apps," says CEO Manish Jha. "For publishers looking to cut through the clutter, Chorus helps you tap into your most loyal fans to become ambassadors of your product."
