O2 offers to 'unlock my iPhone'

Operator plays fair with existing customers as Orange begins offering Apple's device in the UK

O2 UK is offering to legally unlock iPhones tied to its network as two years of exclusivity on the device draw to a close.

The company has set up a microsite to handle the task, should one of its iPhone customers wish to defect to Orange (which is offering the device as of today) or Vodafone at some point in the future.

O2 stresses that any customer unlocking their iPhone will  still have to honour the remainder of the minimum term on their contract.
