Shazam has unveiled a new premium version of its iPhone app, dubbed Encore, which will sit alongside the company's existing free app.

The free version, which has also been upgraded (but now limits users to five 'tags' a month), has been downloaded more than 10 million times from the App Store.

Encore, meanwhile, comes with a clutch of new features including music recommendations, charts, search, and an in-car tagging mode (activated when the iPhone is docked).

Both Shazam apps are live in 22 countries and local language versions are available in English (UK and US), German, Italian, Spanish, French, Dutch, Portuguese and Japanese.

Last month the company took strategic investment from VC firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers - the company behind the $100 million iFund.
