"Pick any AR company, and we're working with them..."
The boom in augmented reality mobile apps will fuel the growth of video eyewear devices, says Paul Travers, CEO of Vuzix.
If you hadn't guessed, Vuzix makes video eyewear - the company unveiled its new Wrap range in London this week.
They plug into any portable video source, including iPhones and portable DVD players, and provide a virtual screen of up to 67 inches in front of the user's eyes.
Watching movies on the go is currently the most popular use, but Travers says AR will be more important in the future, as developers support the Wrap and similar products.
"AR is getting a lot of notice, but for now you’ve got to hold your phone up and have the camera pointed at the real world, walking about like you’re looking for water in the desert!" says Travers.
"It will really take off when there’s a heads-up display in your sunglasses so you can walk down the street and there it is. Pick the name of any augmented reality company today, and we’re working with them."
