iPhone app recommends other apps based on users' friends and preferences
The latest company to launch a recommendation tool for iPhone apps is envIO Networks, whose Chorus application is live on the App Store today.
It's touted as a "fun and free way to discover the hottest apps from the people you trust most - your friends".
Users sign in, import their friend lists from Facebook and their address book, and can then see a live feed of the apps that they have rated and recommended.
ME has been using a beta version of the app for about a week now, and it's certainly easy to use, whether you're just browsing reviews of friends, or uploading your own opinions.
As with any technology of this type, it gets more useful the more friends you have using it. The ability to check out recommendations from strangers near your location widens it out a little.
Meanwhile, envIO has launched a Chorus Content Gobbler on its website - a downloadable tool to automatically create a list of all a user's apps from their desktop.
However, the potential cloud on the horizon is Apple - specifically, whether it might at some point launch its own social app recommendation tool, building on its existing Genius feature.
Even so, until that happens, Chorus seems like an interesting alternative. Previous services like this - AppsFire and LivingSocial for example - have tended to be desktop-based rather than iPhone apps.
At the time of writing, Chorus is only available in the US App Store.
