iPhone increasingly important to Apple's bottom line

You knew this, of course. But here's proof

iPhone accounted for 18.5% of Apple's total sales revenue in its 2009 fiscal year, according to the company's latest SEC filing.

Fortune has been doing the sums, and has pretty graphs showing how this has risen from 5.7% of Apple's total sales the previous year.

iPhone is thus easing the company's dependence on its Mac and iPod product lines, which accounted for 44% and 28.2% of total sales respectively in 2008, but 37.7% and 22.1% in 2009.

Meanwhile, the 'other music related products and services' category, which includes sales of music, video and apps through iTunes, accounted for 11% of total sales in 2009, up from 10.3% in 2008.

The same SEC filing also gives Apple's first public statement on the patent infringement lawsuit it's facing from Nokia.

In its 10-K filing, Apple says that it "intends to defend the case vigorously". Experts tell Reuters the case could drag on for a year or more.
