Not restricted to Android users any more
Augmented reality firm Layar has released its Layar Reality Browser for iPhone.
The app has been causing a buzz among Android users for months, and lets users overlay data from a host of sources on their iPhone's camera feed.
It only works on the iPhone 3GS, as it uses the handset's compass to figure out what direction the user is looking in when using the app.
Developers can create unique 'layers' for the browser. For example, some available at launch include:
UK House Hunter, which lets you browse houses for sale around your current location.
London Tube Stations, which brings up the nearest stations when you're wandering around London.
Food and Drink, which locates nearby fast food outlets.
Wikipedia, which scans your current location for anything that has its own Wikipedia entry.
Tweeps Around, which identifies which Twitter users are active near you.
The application is free. iPhone has so far lagged behind Android when it comes to augmented reality, but with Apple opening up the required APIs to make this kind of application work, we're sure to see more.
