Smartphone app store Handango has announced the winners of its 2009 Champion Awards, giving out gongs for the best apps and developers on Android, BlackBerry, Symbian and Windows Mobile.

The awards garland apps in numerous categories for each of those platforms, including games, business apps, location, travel and personalisation. The full list of winners is here. However, Handango also gives awards to the overall best applications for each platform.

EA Mobile’s SimCity Metropolis game was the top Android app, TetherBerry (made by the company of the same name) was best BlackBerry app, Lonely Cat Games’ LCG Jukebox took the Symbian prize, and SPB Software’s SPB Mobile Shell 3 scooped the Windows Mobile gong.

Three of those firms also won their categories in Developer Of The Year: EA Mobile (Android), Lonely Cat Games (Symbian) and SPB Software (WinMo), while e-Mobile Software took the BlackBerry prize.

Handango is offering 25% off the price of all nominees and winners from the awards this week as a promotion, if customers use the code CHAMPION when they checkout.
