Nokia Booklet 3G snapped up by AT&T in the US

$299.99 price point means big subsidy for new netbook

Nokia has announced that its Booklet 3G netbook will be on sale by mid-November in the US, thanks to a deal with AT&T and Best Buy. Check the price: $299.99, albeit with a two-year AT&T Data Connect plan.

The standalone price of the Booklet 3G in Europe is 570 Euros (around $850), so the device is getting a fat subsidy from AT&T to make it more affordable. In Germany, O2 is selling Nokia’s netbook for €249 (around $370).

Best Buy will be selling the Booklet 3G for AT&T at its retail outlets throughout the US, including its standalone mobile stores. The retailer will start taking orders on 22nd October – the same day it goes on sale in Germany.

“By combining the Booklet's sleek design, impressive features and competitive price together with the new Windows 7 operating system from Microsoft, AT&T's nationwide 3G coverage and Best Buy's unmatched national retail footprint, we believe we have a winning combination for U.S. consumers,” says Nokia president and CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo.

It remains to be seen whether AT&T’s network will satisfy Booklet 3G buyers – it’s been much maligned by iPhone users in recent months.

The US version of the device will tie in with Nokia’s suite of Ovi services, including Ovi Maps and the latest version of the company’s Ovi Suite synching software.
