Location-based social network looking to reach more mass-market users with new client
GeoSentric has launched a Java app for its GyPSii location-based social network. Previously, it's only been available for iPhone, Symbian and Windows Mobile handsets.
The Java client works on more than 100 handsets initially, taking the total number of phones supported by GyPSii to more than 350.
The company claims the J2ME version has the same look and feel as its smartphone predecessors. It's being distributed through GyPSii's own site, and also through independent app store GetJar.
"Tha many functions and features offered on our platform, together with our support of all leading mobile devices and platforms, make GyPSii the most complete and comprehensive geo-location and digital lifestyle application on the market," says GeoSentric boss Dan Harple.
However, there may be more competition ahead for GyPSii, with Facebook announcing last week that it's dipping its toes into location-based waters via a partnership with Nokia's Ovi Maps.
