Android users will finally get an official Facebook application, according to reports in the US
Technology blog TechCrunch says it's had confirmation of the news, and that the app may be available on Google's Android Market store by the end of this week.
Why is this news? After all, Facebook has apps available on iPhone's App Store, BlackBerry App World and Nokia's Ovi Store. However, its absence from Android has provoked speculation about why Facebook hadn't made that platform a priority.
Now it has, seemingly. Although if TechCrunch's claim that Google had to lend Facebook one of its Android coders to make it happen is true, it seems the social network's enthusiasm remains lukewarm.
Comparisons will inevitably be drawn with the upcoming update to Facebook's iPhone app, which will introduce features such as video uploads and events.
