AT&T to replace Motricity with Amdocs as operator prepares to launch AppCenter
ME has seen documents advising content providers they will be transitioned to the Amdocs/QPass system in August.
The move will be a huge blow to Motricity, as AT&T is its flagship account. Motricity also lost its Bell Canada contract to Live Wire Mobile in May.
Interestingly, it was in May that Motricity hired AT&T executive Jim Ryan to be its chief strategy and marketing officer. It clearly wasn't sufficient to save the AT&T business.
AppCenter is AT&T's new storefront for downloadable content, ringtones, graphics, games, and other applications.
Given the overly poor quality of Motricity's work over the last 6 months its no wonder ATT is pulling away. Motricity is always more expensive than other providers, sometimes 3-4 times as much. Their work is most often sub-par and delivery takes an eternity. I've gone bald pulling my hair out while working with these guys. They've never been great, but at least they used to aspire to mediocrity. Now, this is nothing but a wise move for ATT. It's the first of many contract cuts to come.
Motricity asked AT&T to find someone else to set up their "store front" for their App Center. It was unprofitable for Motricity to do the work on it so they had them find someone else for the job. Motricity still has a huge relationship with AT&T and next year will be more porfitable for them than ever.
Try publishing some facts instead of half-assed rumors and innuendo.
This story is not rumour and innuendo. It was filed after receipt of a document stating that AT&T was moving over to Amdocs. This has proved to be true. There is no comment on Motricity's performance – Tim Green, exec editor, ME
Tim, Mr. Know it all's statements are very similar to a few facts. The Motricity-AT&T relationship consists of two very different things: the full portal (former InfoSpace business), and the storefront. The portal is where Motricity is getting most of their AT&T revenue from. So unless you know that Motricity is losing the portal business as well (is Amdocs in that biz??), the move will NOT be a huge blow to Motricity, I'm sorry. If the storefront shifts to Amdocs, that may be a win for AT&T, for Amdocs, for Motricity AND for end-users.
