US mobile and fixed line operator reveals cross-platform ambitions
AT&T has revealed a number of ambitious gaming initiatives designed to propel it to the forefront of the casual sector.
Firstly, the company is to overhaul its games offering on its own website “to serve everyone from the casual gamer to the core gamer”, with strategic partnerships with major games companies currently in negotiation.
More ambitious, however, is AT&T’s IPTV gaming plans, which executive director of gaming Glenn Broderick claims “is going to blow the socks off what's on any other cable provider”.
The bigger picture is for AT&T to create a unified and tethered gaming experience that spans the PC, mobile phone and TV.
Broderick told IndustryGamers: "We're putting a ton of money into back-end systems for both mobile and the broadband site. We're making serious investments in the games space because it's now seen as a huge strategic initiative for AT&T. And before it just wasn't; it wasn't on the executive agenda.”
