Title now accounts for one-in-ten games sold for mobile formats
Tetris has sold over 125 million copies in 25 years, averaging around 5 million a year across various formats.
Created in 1984 by Russian artificial intelligence expert Alexey Pajitnov, Tetris is recognised by many as a fundamental stepping stone in the mainstream success of videogaming, and courts a reputation as one of oldest and most played casual games ever released.
As reported by VentureBeat, Tetris now accounts for one-in-ten games sold for mobile formats, and 70 million copies have sold for the devices.
Pajitnov now runs website Tetris Friends Online Games former Nintendo of America chief Minoru Arakawa and Henk Rogers, who has long been involved in livcensing Tetris in its numerous forms. the site hosts over a million games a day.
