Vodafone data revenue up 44 per cent

Operator posts recession-busting performance for the year to March 31st

Vodafone's data revenue (excluding messaging) came in at £3 billion in its fiscal year ending March, up 43.7 per cent from the previous 12 month period.

The company as a whole generated revenue of £41 billion for the year, up 15.6 per cent, while EBITDA was up 10 per cent to 14.5 billion.

Both figures were in line with forecasts, though Vodafone said it would be accelerating its cost-cutting plans, with CEO Vittorio Colao conceding that voice and messaging revenue continue to decline in mature markets.

In addition to data, growth areas for the company were the emerging markets, with Africa and Central Europe revenue growth of 11.2 per cent and Asia Pacific/Middle East revenue growth of 32.3 per cent, driven by India.
