Getjar could start selling content by the end of this year, ME has learned
The Lithuanian firm, whose service is a cross between an app store and a testing/appraisal site for developers, has achieved much success in terms of downloads over the last two years.
Recently it hired Patrick Mork from Glu to move the company away from its technological roots towards a marketing driven ethos and - yes - real revenue.
Now, Mork has told ME that GetJar will get a re-brand soon (but not with a new name), and that the firm will aim to start selling paid-for downloads alongside the free apps it already offers. GetJar currently makes some revenue by charging firms for prominent ranking on the site.
Mork believes that GatJar's high traffic and growing reputation could position it as an important 'neutral' app store in a market populated by stores that are fixed to specific handsets and operators.
