Nokia confirms Vertu MVNO plans for Japan

Club Vertu mobile services will be rolled out using a managed service platform from Nokia Siemens Networks

Nokia has outlined more plans for its much rumoured Japanese MVNO, which will use the luxury Vertu sub-brand.

Unsurprisingly, Vertu has contracted Nokia Siemens Networks to help it with the rollout of the hosted MVNO solution. Nokia hasn't confirmed when the service will go live, but it is due to open Vertu stores on February 19th.

Users of the Club Vertu mobile service will enjoy a host of benefits for tailored for high-fliers, including a members-only concierge service.

Nokia has always struggled to establish itself in Japan in the face of strong local competition, and took the decision in November to withdraw from the market completely with the exception of its Vertu handsets.

Tagore Ramoutar, Director of Business Development for Japan & Korea at Vertu, said: “Meeting the needs of customers in this segment requires a specialised approach. Vertu users the world over are discerning individuals who are willing to pay a premium for the right experience.

"Our success relies on delivering a world class experience that is unmatched. Our greatest priority therefore is providing our customers with new and innovative services, and we will focus our energies on this."

Nokia Siemens Networks will manage the Vertu MVNO from its Singapore hosting centre.
