Start-up says its high-performance, low-power design meets demand for UGC and mobile social networking
Dublin-based Movidia has launched its MA1110 multimedia processor for mobile phones.
The company claims the chip is "the first to enable high-performance in-phone video post-production in real time... empowering a new generation of 'Spielbergs on the move'".
The likes of Intel, AMD and Nvidia will likely have something to say about that, but Movidia says its technology is aimed squarely at OEMs that want to develop differentiated products with enhanced user experiences for activities like social networking.
Sean Mitchell, CEO of Movidia, said: “Network operators and phone manufacturers are queuing up to release ‘Facebook phones’, or offer individual video features like slow-mo. Yet until now no phone has been able to perform complex video editing on a phone in real time. This is something we sought to address in order to really deliver a compelling user experience to unleash the real growth in this market.”
Movidia has R&D and sales teams in Dublin, Romania and Hong Kong, and raised $14 million in Series A funding last October.
