Google will permit paid-for apps on App Market this quarter, say developer bloggers
Android app makers say they have been receiving e-mails from Google saying that the App Market will offer paid downloads within the next few weeks in the US and UK, with Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, France, Italy, and Spain following soon after.
The App Market launched in October, but has only offered free downloads so far. Google says it will return 70 per cent of revenue to developers with the rest going to operators for billing services. Unlike Apple's App Store, App Market will not use credit card billing. Instead it will work with operator payment systems.
Currently, only T-mobile offers one HTC Android-based phone, but many more operators and handset companies are expected to launch Android phones this year.
