apple, iphone, wal-martWal-Mart ranges the iPhone - for $2 less than rivals

The iPhone has gone on sale at Wal-Mart, but not in the low price, low memory spec as rumoured.

The giant US retailer is offering the 8GB device for $197 while the 16GB model costs $297 at Wal-Mart. Both are $2 cheaper than when bought from Apple stores and both require a two-year contract from AT&T.

These offers contradict earlier reports that the famously value-centric Wal-Mart would offer a 4GB phone for $99.

Interestingly, there is a $99 device available for bargain hunters: AT&T is selling refurbished 8GB iPhones at $99, and 16GB models for $199.
