Nokia restructuring continues

615 jobs affected across sales and marketing, Research Center to 'sharpen focus'

Nokia is continuing the rationalisation it started earlier this year, with more changes taking place within sales and marketing at its Markets unit.

The company says the changes, intended to 'de-layer' the organisation, will affect 450 employees, including a maximum of a hundred in Finland.

A further 130 jobs will be affected by changes at Nokia's Research Center, which is to sharpen its focus on fewer but stronger research areas.

Other global workforce adjustments will see 35 jobs affected. Nokia says it has begun employee consultations to discuss the above changes, which are due to come into effect on January 1st 2009.

Juha Äkräs, SVP of human resources at Nokia, said: "Today's changes are part of Nokia's constant renewal where it is important to be close to our customers and ensure that our people are able to focus on the key business priorities. Also, our aim is to find alternative work within Nokia for as many employees as possible."
