Buongiorno launches mobile social network

Hopes 'invitation only' Blinko community will become a top three brand in ten countries

Italy-based D2C mobile content provider Buongiorno has launched a mobile-only social network called Blinko.

The launch ups the ante in the mobile social networking space, with rival D2C giant Zed also making headway in the space.

Buongiorno says it's aiming to make Blinko a 'top three' social networking brand in at least 10 countries.

The service, initially available in Italian, English and Spanish, will be entirely ad-supported, with users charged only for data traffic.

Language support will soon be added for Portuguese, French and German audiences.

Registration to Blinko is 'by invitation only' through blinko.com website or m.blinko.com WAP site, at which point users will prompted to enter an activation code.

Mauro Del Rio, chairman and founder of Buongiorno, said: "The social network is the most important development in digital media of the past three years. It's here to stay. [But] interesting things don't tend to happen in front of a computer screen, but when we're out and about with our mobile phones. That is why Buongiorno wants to lead the uptake of mobile social networking."
