Agreements signed with CoreMedia, CLMA and Intertrust to protect mobile programme downloads.

The BBC says it has tied up the necessary deals in order to use OMA DRM 2.0 compliant measures to protect content downloaded to handsets using its iPlayer catch-up TV service.

The BBC is already bundling iPlayer with Nokia N96 handsets shipping in the UK, but has rubber stamped relationships with DRM specialist CoreMedia and licensing bodies Intertrust and CLMA for a wider roll out of the service.

iPlayer television programmes are currently available for ‘over the air’ download on the N96 for seven days after the initial broadcast.

Matthew Postgate, Controller of Mobile at the BBC, said: "Our agreements with CMLA, CoreMedia and Intertrust have allowed digital rights protection on full television programmes for mobile for the first time. Each of these companies plays a valuable part in helping the BBC evolve its services for audiences and push the boundaries of the broadcasting industry. We are really pleased to be developing these types of partnerships with the wider industry.”
