Atos Origin and InfoGin joined forces to create a transcoding solution for Telefónica.
The system uses InfoGin's Intelligent Mobile Platform to give subscribers optimised access to ‘regular’ web sites that aren’t mobile compliant.
Eran Wyler, CEO of InfoGin, said: “We are delighted that Telefónica has joined the list of tier one operators in Europe, through this strategic move to provide mobile users with the best real Internet experience.
This will inevitably drive a significant increase in user uptake of these new services over the coming years."

“transcoded websites”

What is the obession with transcoding sites that are designed for a PCs monitor to somehow look great and function on a tiny mobile screen ?
I must be missing something. The mobile web + mobile sites that display correctly, with mobile billing solutions, corrrect video /image delivery for mobile, etc ?
Why would anyone want a see a 'transcoded 'web site on a mobile phone ? Its a mess for the end user ?
But mobile operators seem hell bent on trying to deliver the 'internet' to mobile phones and in many cases ignore the 'real mobile web' completely !
How about showing support for the fledgling mobile / WAP community and seperate the 2 issues. Websites are for PCs and WAP sites are for mobile phones. If internet players can't be bothered to invest in mobile versions of their websites then thats their problem !
In the meantime let the mobile web develop and the operators should be supporting it.Not offering mobile web search results as 'the last option' if at all.
Remember buster i,m paying to surf on a mobile phone and I want sites I can see, use, download content from, enjoy.
Not 'transcoded' websites that offer none of these things unless I have an iphone/smartphone with a large screen.I don't and neither do 85 % of my fellow subscribers.
hmmmmfffffffff !
