SanDisk has launched slotMusic – a MicroSD card preloaded with DRM-free music.
The format represents another attempt at extending the life of physical music media in the face of the online onslaught.
It’s also strikes another blow against DRM encryprion. slotMusic cards contain MP3 files of tunes from artists on all four major labels. No passwords will be needed.
The first cards will first be available at offline and online stores in the US, including Best Buy and Wal-Mart.
Europe follows later.
The 1GB cards will ship with a USB sleeve that plugs into ports on Windows, Linux, or Mac computers. Music is played back at up to 320 Kbps. Cards will also carry liner notes, album art, videos, and other content.
