EyeMobile software will enable users to upload, view and comment on photos and videos.
CBS claims it's the first broadcaster to release an application that enables users to report news 'on-the-go'.
EyeMobile, which has been developed by Treemo Labs, is available as a free download from Apple's App Store for the iPhone and iPod Touch.
CBS says the app offers the full functionality of CBSEyeMobile.com, which launched earlier this year.
After submitting a news report, EyeMobile users can update it, track the number of views and engage in discussions with members of the EyeMobile community.
Jeff Sellinger, EVP and general manager at CBS Mobile, said: "Soon we will be able to broadcast anything live from the street, essentially becoming walking televisions. This application enables any iPhone user to report news from their hometown or wherever they are. It also allows users to engage in non-filtered reporting from real people."
