Warning of big problems ahead unless operators manage the extra traffic generated by laptop dongles.
The data load on some mobile networks from the modest installed base of laptop dongles is now exceeding that of all the other phone based services put together, including voice.
That's the stark warning from Simon Bransfield-Garth, UK managing director at Carrier IQ, who says operators had brace themselves for some tough decisions if they're to manage the upsurge in traffic effectively.
Writing for ME, Bransfield-Garth says the knock-on effect of this sudden surge in mobile data usage could have a far reaching impact on the way networks are managed and customers are charged.
He says: "How much longer can the “all you can eat” tariff be viable? Network capacity is a finite resource and without investment in greater bandwidth through 3G hotspots, such as home femtocells or public picocells, the macro networks will become congested, slow and unusable."

All the major UK networks definitely need to work on improving their network bandwidth otherwise with the popularity and constant advertising of Mobile Broadband it will become unusable.
