New consultation document says 'too many' are unhappy with their mobile services.

Ofcom has opened a consultation document to help it find the best way forward for the regulation of the UK's mobile industry.

Specifically, it says that while over 90 per cent of people are happy with their mobile service, 'too many are not'.

It goes on to cite practices like mis-selling as a reason for that, no doubt alluding to the recent rise in complaints against so-called rogue D2C mobile content stores.

The consultation, which closes November 6th, will also address how the industry can ensure wider coverage of 2G and 3G services, its impact on the broader communications market and how termination charges between networks should be set going forward.

Ofcom chief executive Ed Richards said:"Mobile communication is now a central feature of modern life. As our flourishing mobile sector evolves, we want to help maintain strong competition and innovation alongside consumer protection.

"With significant market and technology developments underway, now is the right time to ask some tough questions about the future approach to regulation. We look forward to a wide ranging debate on these issues."
