Company to rationalise some of its content delivery offerings, though overall expansion will continue.

Details provided in an official statement are sketchy, but Nokia has confirmed that at least 200 jobs at its Services and Software unit - half of them at its Espoo HQ - will be affected.

The division is responsible for the Ovi suite of content products, including N-Gage gaming, Maps, mobile advertising and Music Store.

Nokia's internet services offerings have seen a swift roll out over the last 12 months, so it looks as if the company is just doing a bit of housekeeping.

The changes won't necessarily result in redundancies, however, with Nokia saying it has begun consultations to find alternative roles 'for as many employees as possible' within the company.

Niklas Savander, EVP of services & software at Nokia, said: "This year we plan to hire more people into the Services & Software unit than the number of affected employees, so we expect that many employees will be able to transition to new jobs within Nokia.

"We have made great progress with the initial offering this year and I see great potential going forward as we bring context aware Internet services to people's pockets. These changes will strengthen our offerings and enable us to accelerate the delivery of new Internet experiences to market."
