Comes with built-in microphone and is dubbed a "viable communications device" by Sony.
Sony has announced a redesigned PSP at the Leipzig games show this afternoon - it's called PSP 3000 and will launch on October 15th in Europe for €199.
The device contains a built-in microphone and allows users to contact and talk to others in Wi-Fi areas via Skype and Go!Messenger. SCEE president David Reeves called it “a viable communications device”.
Separately, Sony has recently been ramping the non-games content available for PSP through deals with the likes of broadcaster Sky.
PSP 3000 also has an enhanced LCD screen, which Reeves said will “increase intensity and the number of colours that can be displayed" – and is easier to view in natural light.
The console carries the same dimensions as the PSP Slim and Lite, which was only announced at E3 last year.
Reeves announced eight game bundles, all at €199, as well as a set of Go! Communications software.
The current Slim & Lite models would be phased out, said Reeves. It will be given a new budget SRP of €169 as stock sells out.
