Bejeweled sparkles to 25m sales

PopCap has sold 25 million units of Bejeweled across web, mobile, retail, in-flight and other channels.
The figures refer to collective sales of Bejeweled and Bejeweled 2 and equate to a game being sold every 10 seconds. PopCap used the announcement to reveal that its tried to sell the IP for $60,000 in the in its early days.
Jason Kapalka, CEO of PopCap, said: “I vividly recall prospective buyers telling us ‘It’s not even a game,’ while showing us the door.”
In addition to the 25m sales, Bejeweled/Bejeweled 2 has been downloaded more than 350 million times from the Web, accounting for nearly a third of the one billion-plus downloads of all PopCap titles.
All told, the two games have collectively been played for an estimated six billion hours – that’s 684,000 years - the equivalent of 60 people playing the game 24 hours a day since the last Ice Age 11,400 years ago.
