BT survey shows 45 per cent of its customers have browsed for goods and services using their mobile phone.
Forty five per cent of BT's Broadband Anywhere ToGo smartphone customers have browsed the mobile web for goods or services from their devices.
What's more, one in three have price checked or searched for a review of a product/service; one in three have found that their devices have helped them to make well-informed buying decisions; and one in five have made an actual purchase online in the past three months.
The results came out of an ICM poll among 1,000 BT Total Broadband Anywhere customers between June 17th-24th 2008.
To re-cap, BT Broadband ToGo was launched back in May as an all-inclusive package offering a choice of two HTC smartphones and wi-fi access from 3,000 BT Openzone hotspots around the country.
The service had 34,000 customers at the end of July.
BT says the research also provides a 'warning' to retailers who have not yet developed mobile versions of their websites - when asked to name the most important feature of sites viewed from a mobile device one in five said they had to be specifically designed for mobile use.
BT Futurologist Ian Neild said: "For a growing number of savvy shoppers, the online and in-store worlds have now merged. Retailers should take advantage of the fact that customers may now have access to the Internet whilst in-store and, for example, use their wifi connections to deliver expert advice via a store intranet channel.”
