Almost 53,000 virtual gifts summer sent by users during Flirtomatic’s 'Summer Promotion'

The UK-based mobile and online flirting service ran its promo for two weeks in July. During the promotion, users sent each other over 9,500 virtual boob jobs, 7,500 virtual cocktails and 6,500 virtual tattoos. It meant the monthly giving of gifts between January 2008 and the end of July rose on average by 180 per cent.

Flirtomatic works on a business model of providing free membership, while raising revenue through advertising and the sale of premium extras such as virtual gifts. Users send these to each other as part of the flirting process, and to help improve their friends’ ranking.  

In the summer promo, the man and woman who received the most gifts at the end of the two weeks received prizes. The female winner collected 5931 gifts, the male winner collected 668 gifts.

Priya Prakash, Head of Product at Flirtomatic said: "We're still surprised by the content our users want to buy and send to each other. Three years ago we never thought we'd be sending virtual BBQs. It gives us the confidence to continue to look for  ever more innovative ways of providing entertainment for our users".
