Twitter ye not - Twitter suspends UK service
Tim Green Aug 14 2008, 5:55pm
Text blogging specialist Twitter has been forced to suspend its SMS alerts in the UK.
Apparently it was costing too much. The micro-blogging company pays for the forwarded texts whenever a Twitter blogger sends a single message. The firm now says its popularity, and the cost of SMS, has forced it to take action.
However, Twitter will be introducing several local SMS numbers in countries throughout Europe to make Twittering more accessible.
As of July 2008, the company had over 2.2 million registered accounts.
