T-Mobile to build 'open' App store

T-Mobile USA is to abandon the traditional operator portal and replace it with an open app store.
MocoNews says the operator will make the deck – and virtually all of T-Mobile’s handset range – available to almost any developer. Its report suggests developers will submit their applications online, and that they will be presented in order of popularity with no editorial interference from T-Mobile. The revenue-share will be based on how much the application uses the network.
For example, a streaming video application would take more than a simple download.
It’s an interesting move, similar to the one mooted by Verizon Wireless some time ago (which is still yet to happen). And don’t forget T-Mobile was an early and enthusiastic member of Google’s Open Handset Alliance and is expected to launch an Android handset this year.
T-Mobile is the US’s fourth largest carrier, with just over 30 million subs.

With this news from T-Mobile, the news in the Wall Street Journal that since Apple opened its App Store users have downloaded more than 60 million apps for the iPhone, with Apple selling an average of $1M/day in applications for a total of about $30 million in sales over the month, and the news announcement from Cascada Mobile that it has launched a mobile application portal for free mobile apps for the more than 2-Billion Java-based mobile phones out there - - today is shaping up to be a big day for mobile app news.

Interesting and very welcome news. T-Mobile is going to be a winner due to its open approach to third party developers and deserves to be applauded for this move. Many amazing mobile applications don’t get the consumer exposure they deserve due to the closed networks and mindsets of recent years. Good independent application developers are already necessarily conscientious and highly capable regarding different platforms, handsets and configurations and there’s no reason why apps in the T Mobile store should be any different.

For T-Mobile’s G1, there will be a bundle of tmobile g1 accessories online to select from; everything from Backup Batteries to Car Accessories, G1 Cases, Chargers, Cables, Headphones, Cradles, Bluetooth Accessories, and more. The list goes on and on, but basically the primary purposes of any g1 accessories are to add functionality, such as where you can use it and what you can use it with, make some features easier to use, and extend the use of the G1 Android phone at Fommy.com.
