WIN unlocks Greek subscriptions market
Tim Green Aug 4 2008, 1:11pm
WIN Plc has opened up the Greek market for content subscriptions with a new billing solution.
The region had previously been difficult to penetrate for content providers and media brands as it uses a different billing system to most countries and the technology required to make it accessible can be untenable. However, WIN has set up a Mobile Terminated billing connection that allows consumers to text a shortcode and receive alerts-based messages, or join clubs to receive content. WIN has all the major Greek networks on board, so the service is ready to go.
Previously, Greek customers had to send a message to content providers before being billed, a system that does not suit the subscription business model.
Greece has a mobile penetration of 138 per cent and, says WIN, roughly three times more mobile traffic than any other European territory. WIN has opened an office in Athens to provide a genuinely local service to partners.
Kerstin Trikalitis, MD of WIN Plc Greece, said: “Early reports suggest high growth curves for the first wave of companies using us to deliver subscription based services; and we’re expecting a lot more enquires in the months and the year to come.”
