mobivention is to license American Greetings IP such as Care Bears and Strawberry Shortcake.
The German company will initially offer wallpapers and videos of the popular brands, with MMS-based greeting cards, themes and Java games planned for development in the longer term.
Care Bears has generated around $2,4 billion in retail sales since the re-launch of the brand in 2002 while the Strawberry Shortcakes brand has sold over 25 million dolls and 10 million toy accessories. Other brands included in the deal are Holly Hobbie, Twisted Whiskers and more.
Dr. Hubert Weid, CEO of mobivention, said: “American Greetings, with its popular brands is exactly the type of licensee that mobivention seeks to partner with in order to enrich its graphics portfolio and provide the most popular brands to our network operator clients.” The deal strengthens mobivention’s place in the mobile graphics market.
It bought the download business of imaging specialist Airmotion in May.
AG set up its own dedicated mobile unit in 2005, but eventually switched strategy to licensing its IP to partners.
