LG shipped 27.7 million handsets in the last quarter to boost shipments by 45 per cent.
Profit at the mobile-phone division doubled to 547.3 billion won, exceeding analyst estimates. It led some observers to suggest that LG overtook Motorola in terms of shipments during the second quarter.
Powering LG’s handset surge were its Viewty, Voyager and Secret models.
The Viewty shifted two million units. Overall, the South Korean company said it sold seven million touchscreen phones at an average selling price of $530. However, LG said profitability will slip later this year due to slower demand and rising competition.
