Rogers relents over iPhone tariffs

Canadian operator responds to criticism by introducing 'special offer' data-only plan.
People power still works - Rogers Wireless has reacted to a 56,000 signature petition against its miserly iPhone price plans by offering a last minute special rate.
So, anyone signing up to a three-year contract when iPhone 3G launches tomorrow will be able to add a 6GB data allowance for C$30 a month on top of their existing voice plan.
Originally, Rogers was offering a C$75 a month deal for 300 weekday voice minutes, 100 text messages and 750 megabytes of data, rising to C$115 a month for 2GB.
The Canadian iPhone 3G launch is also notable as Apple is not selling the device in any of its own stores, giving rise to much speculation that the manufacturer had fallen out with Rogers.
