Operator combines all the big brands to create the mother of all mobile social networking services.
Orange is to aggregate all its social networking partners into a single destination on the Orange World portal.
The unified service, which encompasses Facebook, MySpace, Bebo, Skyrock, Pikeo, Flirtomatic, DailyMotion and Meetic, has launched in France and will 'follow soon' in the UK, Switzerland, Spain and Portugal.
Orange says it made the change to improve the user experience having previously given its social networking partners standalone homes across its portal.
The new system works by displaying the most popular functions of each site side by side so they can be accessed with one click. As such users will be able to receive and send messages, upload photos and check status updates without having to browse individual URLs or log into separate sites.
Orange plans to evolve the service from Orange World to an embedded application, accessible from the home screen of Orange Signature phones.
Interestingly, it says its ultimate goal is to bring the communities together across its mobile, PC and TV services.
Olaf Swantee, head of global mobile operations at Orange, said: “This service illustrates how Orange is aggregating digital content to simplify access to social networks from mobile devices. In future, Orange will deliver digital entertainment across mobile, TV and broadband, giving consumers content not just where they want it, but how they want it.”
