Around a third of Latin Americans are users of mobile content, says Frost & Sullivan.
Mobile content services were responsible for 3.1 per cent of total mobile telephony revenues in the region in 2007, reaching 57.1 million or 31.1 percent of all subscribers. Frost & Sullivan estimates content revenues of $1.15 billion in 2007 and is projecting $8.93 billion in 2014.
Brazil is the biggest market, with 37.7 percent of the total 122.8 million subscribers using at least one of the mobile content services in 2007.
Mobile music alone represented 38.1 per cent of revenues, generating $250.2 million last year.
But there’s much more potential for growth. Most subscribers are still unaware of the capabilities of their handsets and find it difficult to search for the content, says the market watcher.
