New Ovi service enables users to remotely access and share files on their PC using a mobile handset
The service, currently in beta mode, is based on technology Nokia inherited following its acquisition of Avvenu.
It allows the user to access files (Word, Excel, pics, music, PDF) stored on their PC (XP/Vista) using a phone. It's not a new idea - the Orb has been out there for a while now (on 3 UK for example).
The service is intended for use when the user's PC is switched on. However, users can also upload files to a secure locker for access at anytime.
Users need to download the app to their PC and sign up to a 60-day free trial with 10GB of storage - Nokia intends to introduce a subscription fee for Files once the trial is complete.
Other services offered under Nokia's Ovi content brand are N-Gage gaming, Maps, Music Store and Share.
