Calton Hill has developed a technology for putting rights-protected movies on SD cards
The UK company’s SecureSharing technology stores films in an encrypted form that can only be unlocked by a key are stored in a secure area of the card. This can be read only by Calton Hill’s DRM client software – stored in a different area. When the card is removed the film and keys are deleted immediately, so only one device can ever run the film at a time. Calton Hill says this means that, for the first time ever, consumers can legally lend or gift the card to a friend.
Calton Hill’s SecureSharing complies with the mobile phone industry’s GlobalPlatform STIP specifications, allowing it to run on any device that supports this standard. The DRM Client also complies with the Open Mobile Alliance DRM v2.0 specifications, so it is not restricted to any proprietary technology.
