Web giant insists it's business as usual despite nasty rumours that its Android mobile OS will be delayed.

Google has re-stated that handsets powered by its Android OS will be on sale during the second half of this year as planned, despite reports in the Wall Street Journal that the launch may only just make the fourth quarter.

The article suggested that T-Mobile would just about manage to get Android devices in the market this year, while Google's other US partner Sprint would not be able to deliver until 2009 because resources were being diverted to its German-owned rival.

China Mobile, meanwhile, would see its own Android launch slip to 2009, having initially targeted a 3Q08 debut.

Google, however, remains defiant and has issued the following statement: "We are on schedule and we're very excited to see the momentum continuing to build behind the Android platform among carriers, manufacturers, developers and consumers."
