Nokia acquires rest of Symbian for £209m

Finnish handset giant snaps up remaining chuck of mobile OS specialist.
Nokia has inked agreements to buy up the 52 per cent of Symbian it doesn't already own from Ericsson, Panasonic, Siemens and Samsung.
Symbian was co-founded by Ericsson in 1998, but as the Swedish IT giant no longer manufactures mobile phones directly its says its shareholding in the company no longer strategic.
Ericsson had owned 15.6 per cent of the shares in the OS company.
Nokia's acquisition of the shares in Symbian is subject to approvals from relevant competition authorities and is expected to be completed during the second half of 2008.
Symbian partners shipped 18.5 million smartphones in 1Q to bring lifetime shipments to 206 million.
