musictstation, napster, omnifone, rob lewis, vodafoneOmnifone makes 'UK's largest' claim

Omnifone says its unlimited downloads mobile music store has more subs than 'PC-centric' subscription services.

That would effectively mean MusicStation (which is available exclusively via Vodafone UK) has more subs than services like Napster UK and newcomer Nokia Music Store. (Apple's iTunes doesn't offer a subscription service).

Unfortunately, Omnifone doesn't offer up any figures to back up its claim. And Napster doesn't appear to publicly break its subscriber information down by geography. Meanwhile, Nokia's user base will be small.

Omnifone CEO Rob Lewis seems happy enough though. He said: "MusicStation makes the traditional 'PC centric' model, where users have to download music to PC before transferring it to a portable device, an unnecessary and outdated concept."

MusicStation offers Vodafone users access to 1.8 million tracks for a flat fee of £1.99 a week.
