Trade body teams with NPD to track the top sellers.
NPD will compile and chart the data, creating sales information that MEF says will enable it to promote and create awareness within the mobile games space.
The chart will begin as a monthly update, covering popular games and total sales.
Jill Braff, SVP of global publishing at Glu Mobile and a leader of the MEF Mobile Games Chart initiative, said: "Until now, mobile gaming was a sector of the industry that had been wholly under-tracked for the US market."
The UK has had a mobile games chart for a few years now, compiled by ChartTrack for games trade body Elspa. That itself is being given an overhaul and will soon re-launch as a weekly rather than monthly listing.
