Aricent claims to have solved the problem of content discovery with a widget-based app called Celltop.
The company describes Celltop as similar to the personalised widget shortcuts on the desktop of a PC. It provides easy access to data services by reducing the obstacle of multiple click-throughs. Celltop was launched on selected Alltel Wireless phones in January 2007.
Now, Aricent wants to expand the app’s availability by making the Celltop software development kit available for both BREW uiOne and J2ME handset platforms.
The Celltop mobile client framework includes ready-to-run cells such as inbox, stocks, weather, news, call-log and ringtones, and can be customised by network operators to offer a branded user experience. Consumers also have access to a whole host of subscription-based cells including a cheap fuel locator, music downloads and streaming radio.
